Do you see the Smuggler's face?
Image of what locals referred to as 'the Smuggler'

Recently sold on eBay. This is a photograph that was made into a postcard and copies were sold in the early 1900s. (We recently found this photo/card in an eBay auction August 2009)

Real photo post card showing the Old Smuggler's Face in the rock at Smuggler's Notch, Vermont. c1910

Route 108 meanders past the base of Mt. Mansfield. Vermont's highest peak at 4393 feet, and climbs though Smugglers Notch. The reputed route for the cattle smugglers and hiding place for Champlain pirates.

Photo was captured when the photographer noticed the image of a smuggler appeared in the landscape. It's not known if the image can still be seen now, a hundred years later.
