My ghostly experiences in Gettysburg!

The Ghost Master went to Gettysburg March 16th thru the 20th, 2000. I had a great time, met some wonderful people, learned Civil war history up close and had some very spooky experiences! I have for the most part however, narrowed my experiences down to one particular night when I was staying at the farnsworth Inn. That place is truly haunted.....amazingly so!

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

I arrived in Gettysburg on Thursday March 16th and found a beautiful city that seemed to take me back in time at least one hundred years. I can honestly say that it must be one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen. I went in as a ghost hunter with a single objective, to capture ghostly energy on film. After staying in that famous city for a short time I had expanded my Interests. I was suddenly moved emotionally towards what had happened there in 1863. I thought intensely about the soldiers that fought there and the 51,000 who lost their life for the cause they were involved in (both sides). The emotions I felt were of sorrow and compassion, as well as admiration for these brave souls that fought so valiantly & gave so completely. It was a humbling lesson.

I witnessed many unusual experiences while in Gettysburg that caused myself and my companions great alarm! I also had the opportunity to attend the IGHS ghost conference on Saturday. But I wish to focus my thoughts mainly on my experiences of a single night at the Farnsworth Inn on Sunday the 19th because that was the most haunting experience I had while there and that's what this web site is dedicated to. 

MY HAUNTED EXPERIENCE IN THE FARNSWORTH
I checked in at the Farnsworth house Sunday at noon for my final night in Gettysburg before leaving for Sacramento the next day. The Inn keeper (Donna) led me to my upstairs room (the Sarah Black room) while mentioning to me that I was staying in the most haunted room in the Inn as far as ghostly activity goes. I felt a tingling go through my body, for that was why I had originally reserved that room. When we entered the room there were several ghost hunters from the conference touring the Inn and they all seemed to congregate in my room, which was interesting. Donna began her spiel concerning the room. Jim, she said, We like to warn those that stay in this room that the resident ghost, Mary claims this room as her own. She continued, please do not put any clutter on this dresser or Mary will eventually push it off onto the floor. She also counseled me on some things concerning the bathroom. By the way, I didn't leave any clutter for fear of aggravating Mary.

MY STAY BEGINS...
I met up with my two fellow team members (Carolyn & Fran) and we were soon approached by a young newlywed couple (Ben & Susan) who who there to experience a haunted Inn, so they joined out team! We spent part of the day investigating the Inn and found several cold spots and collected many ghostly orb photos where the cold spots were felt. Our meters were going off frequently while a ghost would pass by. We spent two hours investigating the house then separated from Ben & Susan until 7 pm when we would all meet up for some night investigation on the battlefields, which we did until closing time, that being 10 pm (See the "April Photos" section for a look at the photos we captured there). The excitement mounted as we prepared for midnight when we would begin the major portion of our investigation at the Farnsworth. Carolyn and Fran would not be joining us for this particular investigation but would join up with us again in the morning.

LATE NIGHT INVESTIGATION WITH MAJOR RESULTS!
Ben, Susan and myself all met together at midnight, this being after the Inn was completely closed up tight for the night. We began in my room, no activity present, we then moved on to Ben & Susan's room. The meters were going crazy in the middle of the room and in a large cabinet against the wall. Note: the meters were not responding to those areas earlier that evening. It was an amazing experience to know that I was standing in the exact spot that a ghost was occupying at the very same time! Susan began to feel cold spots. We then checked Susan's luggage where a ghost had been monitored earlier....nothing there. We moved on to the Garrett bathroom.

The Garrett bathroom is no longer in use and is now actually used for storage. The Inn keepers had locked it up before leaving for the night. Ben called me quickly over to that location where He & Susan were hearing the sounds of a rocking chair. Sure enough, I heard it too! We were not able to enter the room to tract the noise or use our EMF meters but it is our opinion that is was  someone or something rocking back & forth in there. I heard from a good friend & fellow ghost hunter (Becky Gummo) a few days later, and she mentioned that this bathroom had once been part of a big upstairs porch before it was converted. That could explain the rocking chair noises. We were now ready for the basement & catacombs...

On to the Basement & catacombs...The catacombs are what I wanted to see the most. As you might have read in the story section of this web site, Becky had an experience of being zapped while trying to open the door to enter the catacomb section. While in the basement I asked Ben if he was sure he wanted to go into this section and he stated: "I'm scared sh**less but I'm going in!" Note: this was after midnight and the witching hour had begun. (witching hour is between 12 & 3 am) We opened the door to the catacombs and entered, armed with only our camera's and a Sony voice recorder ready to record ghostly voices. We took several pic's and I asked a few questions to any entity that might be present. I received an answer when I asked his name. He said "Arthur". The hair on our arms stood straight up when we played back that part of the tape. We then went back in and asked "Is there anything we can do for you"? He responded "no!" Again we felt a chill as we heard the recorded voice. We recorded one last statement made by our ghostly host before leaving but it was to garbled up to make out. We concluded our stay by asking some questions in the basement and all of the sudden all three of us felt an horrifying presence like some unseen force was about to pounce down on us! We all jumped up at the same time and fled the area and ran back upstairs to my room and guess what we found there!!??

My room (Sarah Black room) Upon arriving back to my room, we found my door wide open and my laptop computer had just been rebooted! We were rubbing our arms to get the hair to stay down from the chill of seeing these things! We entered the room and took a quick look around.....there was no one or no thing detectable at that point. We figured that a ghostly presence had been curious about the laptop and had accidentally rebooted it. I set my camcorder up to film the room and we went back to Ben & Susan's room...

Ben & Susan's room once again... We went back in this room to re-test the area where ghostly presence's were detected earlier. The meters were now detecting nothing......whatever presence that sent our EMF meters to five+ on the scale were now gone. We went back to my room before calling it a night...

Back to the Sarah Black room... We returned to my room and all appeared as we left it, thank goodness! I handed Ben a walkie talkie and a EMF meter and we said our goodnights. We would stay in touch with the radios in case there were further disturbances. I was feeling like something was watching me the whole time I was in the room but the video camera wasn't detecting anything on film and the EMF meter registered normal readings for the time being...

Seeing the ghosts with night vision... I was preparing a bath and wanting to get some sleep since it was 2:30 in the morning. However, before jumping into the bath I turned out all the lights in the room and switched my Sony video camera to infrared, using night vision technology. That's when I saw them! I saw up to three ghostly orbs at a time moving quickly by the back wall next to my bed......what an amazing sight that was!  I decided to take my bath and upon returning to the room I noticed my laptop had again been rebooted and I was still getting orbs swimming around in the air by my bed! I was a bit nervous but decided the best thing to do was to hide under the covers and get some sleep. I added a fresh two hour tape to the video camera and aimed it at the head of the bed so as to record myself sleeping for two hours. I jumped into bed and soon began to hear footsteps at the foot of my bed but just out of range of the camera. I said a prayer asking for protection and went to sleep. I woke up the next morning and all seemed well. Oh, I have yet to watch the video of me sleeping in fear of something showing up on the film!
