Beautiful but haunted necklace!

On a weekend in February 1989, I went to visit my friend Ann who was working at Panache Antiques in Fullerton California.   This was a very large upscale antique store.  Many dealers rented merchandise stalls, and if you really enjoyed browsing antiques, this was the place to go.

Ann met me at the front counter, and we proceeded to walk up and down the aisles, looking and talking to dealers.  I approached my friend Betty who was putting some antique jewelry in the glass display case.  Betty usually displayed oriental antiques of all kinds, but today, she had a beautiful an Art Nouveau necklace with the prettiest golden amber topazes encased in rose gold.  The chain was very intricately designed and the lock was double locked.   Betty asked me if I wanted to look at the necklace, but I decided to continue looking, but I told her I would be back later. When I returned she had locked the case.  When she tried to open the case, the key would not turn, and she told me she felt an electrical vibration in her fingers and hand.  She tried several times, and was going to remove the sliding glass door on the case when the key worked and she was able to remove the necklace.  I put the necklace on, and bought it.  I decided to wear it home and that night, I discovered I was having trouble removing it.  The lock would not open and I did not want to force it open.  My daughter was coming home that night, so I decided I would have her help me.  About midnight, I decided to wear it to bed.  I woke up at five o’clock in the morning, feeling dizzy nauseated with a horrible headache.  My sense of balance was gone and when I made it to the bathroom, looking in the mirror, I noticed the pupil in my right eye was dilated.  I staggered to the dining room table and sat down.  I honestly felt I was dying because my vision was coming and going.  My daughter heard me, and came out to see what was happening.  She made me a cup of coffee, but it didn’t help.  We sat at the dining room table for about two hours.  I couldn’t get over the horrible sick feeling and was preparing to go to the emergency hospital, when our cocker dogs started jumping on the door in the side yard.  I got up and made it to the door, and almost lost my balance.  I was bending forward when my daughter, Lisa removed the necklace, when I thought the dogs might rip it loose from my neck.   In seconds, after removing the necklace, I felt normal.  Two hours later, we went out for breakfast.  The necklace was put in the safe, and several months later, Lisa decided to wear the necklace to work.  Two hours later, she became very depressed, and had the urge to go to the photo lab and drink chemicals that develops photography.  She knew it was crazy, but the thoughts were overpowering.  Her boyfriend came into her office, and told her she looked pale.  Even though she was wearing the necklace over a heavy turtleneck sweater, she felt it becoming extremely heavy around her neck and chest.  She removed the necklace and she immediately felt normal and could not understand why she had such uncontrollable thoughts.

Needless, to say we returned the necklace to Betty.  She said the necklace had been in her safe for years, and she thought it had come from New York, but was made in Greece.

She had forgot about it, because her main interest is in Oriental antiques including jade jewelry.  I exchanged it for a jade bangle bracelet.   There have never been any problems since the return of the necklace.

Did some woman in the past wear this necklace when she was so depressed she decided to take her life?  Were her sad depressed energies imbedded in the beautiful topaz stones and rose gold?  Did she love this necklace so much, she really couldn’t release herself completely?  This is our strange story.  It really happened.  To this day, I can remember it’s beauty, and wish things would have been different.
