First off, let me say. "I blew it" as far as a perfect ghost-hunting location is concerned. Only years after the described events, I researched the paranormal and discovered that I had lived for 2 years in a VERY haunted location with text-book (and very document able) occurrences...I have found nothing even close to the intensity since. My story is as follows: In 1983 I moved into a small 2 bedroom cottage-type house (also known as a "Cracker Box" style home) in Southern California. The house was built around the turn of the century (1908, as later research would show), so I figured an old house has "quirks". The first thing I noticed (the day I moved in) was a very pronounced "Cold-Spot" in my bedroom closet. This was a constant occurrence. I would prepare for the cold air before getting my clothes every morning, and I kinda got used to it. Also besides the cold spot there was a tapping sound (sort of like a knuckle against a desk) which sounded like it was coming from inside the closet I would hear almost every night just before I went to bed. Being thick headed and unaware of paranormal occurrences, I tried to ignore the tapping (maybe a loose pipe or something). After being in the house about 6 months things seemed to go up a notch...After washing the dishes and putting them away, I went to bed, I was awakened at 3:00am by a heavy crashing sound in the kitchen. Thinking a cabinet had shifted or there was an earthquake (I'm in California after all) I rushed into the kitchen to see what happened. Everything was normal, all was as I left it, nothing broken. About 2 weeks later I had a replay of the crashing sound. ran into the kitchen and everything was fine except for a single spoon was sitting in the center of the floor. All the drawers were closed and there were no dishes in the sink, so being thick headed I picked the spoon up, put it in a drawer and went back to bed. The next morning I woke up. went through my normal routine. prepared myself for the cold spot in the closet and opened the door to get my clothes. Sitting in the middle of the closet floor was a single spoon. That's when I knew something was odd...but didn't know what. The next several months were relatively quiet except I noticed the tapping in the closet had gotten much louder and more pronounced, still I tried to ignore it. In May 1984 I came home late from a party and saw someone moving around the darkened house from my front window. thinking I was being robbed I went to my neighbors house and called the police. The policed showed up and determined the house was empty. I went inside and checked for myself and nothing was missing so I went to bed. Over the next several months the tapping got much louder, more frequent and more irritating. It all came to a head in Sept. 1984: I came home from work and went straight into the bathroom.....while I was doing my business I heard "the" closet door open and close repeatedly.. I ran down the hall to the bedroom to see what was happening and nothing! I was starting to get spooked (finally), I tried to ignore the event and went to bed. As I was starting to fall asleep the tapping started up. I listened for maybe 10-15 minutes then it stopped. I breathed a sigh of relief and started to fall back asleep that's when in my right ear someone screamed "LISTEN!" it sounded muffled but very loud! I freaked out and ran out of the house.. I moved out soon after. I think someone or something had been trying to get my attention for quite a while and got really frustrated that I was trying to ignore it. After researching ghosts and the paranormal I really wish I had documented some of this. On a funny side note: after I first moved in, I sold my brand new Olympus 35mm camera because I thought it had a light leak (you guessed it) I took a few rolls of my new house and had all these damn streaks and blurs in nearly every picture. I threw away all the prints (I know. I'm a fool). The house was torn down in 1995 to build over-priced condos. I researched the house and found nothing except when it was built. I've heard of no occurrences since. So the moral of the story: when someone wants your attention...LISTEN! BACK
