Callie writes, "This picture began to
circulate around my sorority house because
the women in the picture are friends of one
of the girls in our house. It was taken in
New York in November and when they went to
pick the pictures up from there trip when
they arrived home (Missouri) at Wallgreens.
Wallgreens could not believe what they saw
in one of the pics. All of us girls have
researched it because we were all so freaked
out by the picture that one of us called Con
Edison because that is what was written on
his hat that he is wearing. They called
immediately back and said it was someone who
worked for them years ago... George Metesky.
We researched him and he was the MAD BOMBER
OF NEW YORK!!!! Con Edison is sending the
photo to his family.... it is amazing!!!!
The Subway was going full speed and he is
not in the second photo that they took
seconds after because in the first one one
of the ladies was not smiling... interested
in seeing what you thought."

This is
pretty interesting. George Metesky was a serial
bomber in NYC. He died in
1994 at the age of 90. If this photo was taken
during this last month, George would have
already been dead for 11 years. I'm sending the
original photos back to you, and including one
of only two photos that I was able to find on
him, for comparison.
UPDATE
Dan writes, "I
am writing to you today regarding the "Ghost
of the Mad Bomber of NY" photo presented in
your most recent monthly gallery. You would
need to be a
 regular
rider of the New York City subway system to
know that the image behind the women in the
photo is part of a conEdison ad campaign
entitled "On It", featuring black and white
photographs of conEdison employees
performing their duties. The image in
question is of an employee looking out of a
manhole at the camera. If the image
included the higher portion, you would have
seen the words "On It" in large blue block
letters. I have been attempting to find
images of this poster (or other posters from
this ad campaign) on the web with no luck,
but I did see this same poster on the subway
on my way home from work on New Year's Eve.
I can see how the submitting reader could
have believed this to be a ghost capture, if
they really didn't notice the poster behind
them at the time of the photo, as the poster
IS just a little bit creepy. However, if
they really were informed by conEdison that
they were looking at a photo of George
Metesky, the rep they spoke to may have been
having some fun at their expense. The
person pictured in the poster is wearing
modern equipment, which I think rules out
the possibility that an old stock photo of
George Metesky was used. Thank you for
continuing to present a wonderful website,
even in the face of repeated ISP issues.

Angie writes, "I know you only require three pics but
I wasn't the only one that captured this and
one of the pics someone blew up for everyone
to see more clearly. these pics were taken
from a cam called "haunted farm cam".
It was Sunday
morning, Nov. 20th 2005, about 11am. I had
just come online to watch the cams when I
saw this child hiding next to the chair. I
watched him/her move around. first pic is
the child hiding there, second is the child
still there but had moved its face back
behind the chair back. in the third, well,
the woman's boy had come running in the
room, looked at the ghost and then ran off,
the ghost was gone. I asked the woman, whose
house this is, and she told me she was
there, the cam is on her computer, and that
isn't one of her kids. she asked her son
what he had been doing that morning and he
said he was in fact playing hide and
seek.....with the ghost. please tell me what
you think. thank you."
