Lesson - Breath vs. Ecto-mist!
If you are taking pictures at night in the cold, you will eventually capture your breath. Especially if you are out of breath and breathing hard. An example would be that you walked up a hill and then stopped to take a picture. Breath on film will normally appear either blotchy or dense. The color will be white or light brown... or a mixture of both. If you follow the (unwritten) ghost hunters code... you will never consider Ecto pics that were taken in extreme cold conditions. The problem is not so much catching others breath on film but more importantly your own. Breath within a foot of the lens will be displayed on film similar to the photos below. Always hold your breath for at least 5 seconds before taking pictures in the cold. Also, do not allow others to stand close during a picture taking session. The truth is, most Ecto-mist photos are simply breath or cigarette smoke. But we'll talk about smoke another time. ;)
