Folks, we have
to be really careful when using the new Sony video cameras with SuperNiteShot
(regular Niteshot is okay). This feature will slow down the shutter speed and
have insects and bugs appearing as trailing orbs and Rods! Read Chris's letter
below.
Chris
writes, "The newer Sony Camcorders have a feature called SuperNiteshot. It
Basically increases the range of the nitevision. Mine has standard, and in that
mode the shudder speed stays normal, no trailing but less distance for Inferred.
However, there is a Button on the cam you can push and it dramatically increases
your Inferred distance but also internally slows the shudder speed way down. I
think it comes standard now with all Sony digital camcorders. That's why I
purchased the Inferred attachment that goes in the hotshoe slot on the top, I
wanted greater distance but normal shudder speed.
I think you will be seeing a flood of trailing Insect pics on the net in
the near future. My take is this, If you bring a digital camcorder on an
Investigation, Make sure it is not running in the “super mode” or you will
get trailing effects on every bug or dust particle that passes by the camera
view. I recommend buying the external bulb unit and not messing with the shudder
speed because it can produce many or should I say almost all false positives."
